Physicians

Screening you can trust

During our first 8 years of screening patients in a clinical setting, we met with every patient and many of their physicians to go through every finding that we made. This allowed us to gain a deeper insight into what is important for patients and physicians. As a result, the Prenuvo scan today is a reflection of the feedback that we've collected over many years. Every year, hundreds of physicians refer their patients to Prenuvo, many of whom use Prenuvo scans as a critical part of their preventative health practice. They work with us because we help them spend less time diagnosing and more time working with their patients to improve their health span.

Testimonials

The benefits to Prenuvo are absolutely game-changing for my clients, especially those with past cancer diagnoses or strong family histories for cancer, and for those who are just anxious about getting cancer or about their presenting symptoms. The service is exceptional!

Dr. Beth Donaldson, MD

"The Prenuvo scan is an integral part of our preventative health plans for all the patients that we see at our clinic. They provide fantastic insight that equips physician and patient alike to improve their health.”

Dr. Ali Farahani, MD

“Prenuvo has been outstanding in guiding my patients to ensure they are being looked after. In medicine, we can be sadly reactive, thus causing fear and uncertainty among people. Utilizing Prenuvo has given a peace of mind that cannot be matched by any other diagnostic tool.”

Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer

  • Lifetime Odds
    6.3%
  • Avg Stage of Diagnosis
    3.1
  • Avg Five Year Survival
    10.0%
  • Symptoms
    • Persistent cough
    • Shortness of breath
  • Things to Know
    • Aggressive
    • Spreads through the blood supply
  • Routine Screening
    • Available
    • Not very effective

Prenuvo’s Performance

  • There is no routine screening for lung cancer other than in high-risk former smokers. That screening is done using CT which has high false-positive rates and radiation. For nodules ≥10 mm techniques similar to those used at Prenuvo were found to have 97% sensitivity [PMID 21696559]. Recent studies have shown that DWI MRI is comparable to FDG PET without the radiation [PMID 34680313].

Pancreatic Cancer

Pancreatic Cancer

  • Lifetime Odds
    1.6%
  • Avg Stage of Diagnosis
    3.2
  • Avg Five Year Survival
    32.0%
  • Symptoms
    • Asymptomatic
  • Things to Know
    • Once it spreads, it usually surrounds essential arteries, rendering surgery a palliative option only
  • Routine Screening
    • Unavailable
    • Not very effective

Prenuvo’s Performance

  • There is no standard of care screening so pancreatic cancer is typically caught late. Our imaging enables us to view the pancreas and pancreatic duct in great detail, leading to diagnoses of many pancreatic cancers at Stage 1. Approaches similar to what we use at Prenuvo for detection of pancreatic adenocarcinoma were found to be 93% sensitivity and 89% specificity [PMID 28624015]. A study investigating DWI small (less than or equal to 20 mm) detected pancreatic adenocarcinoma (cancer) with 95.7% sensitivity and 100% specificity [PMID 28784320].

Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer

  • Lifetime Odds
    13.0%
  • Avg Stage of Diagnosis
    1.7
  • Avg Five Year Survival
    90.9%
  • Symptoms
    • Lump in the breast
    • Bloody discharge from the nipple
    • Changes in shape or texture of the nipple or breast
  • Things to Know
    • Patients with dense breasts are most likely to be diagnosed late as mammograms are less effective in detecting abnormalities in dense breasts
  • Routine Screening
    • Available

Prenuvo’s Performance

  • The standard of care screening is mammogram in women, however this modality suffers in women with dense breast tissue (typically pre-menopausal women). In women with dense breasts, DWI techniques have been found to be more sensitive to tumor detection than mammograms without increases in false positives [PMID 27077731]. DWI was found to reduce unnecessary breast biopsies relative to standard MRI [PMID 30647080].

Thyroid Cancer

Thyroid Cancer

  • Lifetime Odds
    1.3%
  • Avg Stage of Diagnosis
    1.7
  • Avg Five Year Survival
    89.2%
  • Symptoms
    • Lump, swelling or pain in the neck
  • Things to Know
    • Most can be cured with timely, appropriate treatment
  • Routine Screening
    • Unavailable

Prenuvo’s Performance

  • Prenuvo techniques in the thyroid have been found to be comparable to ultrasound in distinguishing benign from malignant nodules [PMID 31752728].

Can you tell me more about the Chief Radiologist at Prenuvo?

Dr. Attariwala, MD, Ph.D. is a dual board-certified radiologist and nuclear medicine physician who is certified in both Canada and the United States. Dr. Attariwala has given numerous presentations at international conferences and is very active in the whole body MRI community. He received his formal training at UBC, along with specialized medical training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York), UCLA, and USC. Dr. Attariwala also holds a doctorate in biomedical engineering from Northwestern University (Evanston, IL).

Does your clinic provide referrals to top specialists and doctors locally and abroad?

We can provide you with some recommendations of specialists who we have previously worked with. Unfortunately, we cannot refer you to a specialist directly. However, we want to collaborate with any of the medical professionals you have and would be happy to work with your doctor to make sure that you are taken care of.

Does your clinic retain a copy of the scans and/or store that information?

We follow federal and state/provincial specific legislation for each clinic regarding redention of medical records.

How are you different from other whole body MRI services?

There are so many differences between a Prenuvo scan and other whole body MRI services that we generally don't make comparisons. - Sequences and filters used – To make sure that there is a low false-positive rate, it is essential to image your body with multiple filters (multiparametric imaging). Most other whole body providers do not use many filters in their screening protocol. In our protocol, this is the key to our low false-positive rate. - Quality and quantity of the images — We take up to 2000 high-quality images inside your body. The basic rule is that more images provide more details. We capture up to 10x more images than some other "Whole Body MRIs". - One-time scanning — We scan you from head to toe during one 50-75min scan. Other providers scan parts of the body, missing entire sections, and call it a whole body scan. - Price – Our services are less expensive than our competitors.

How does your scan compare to 3T MRIs?

Bigger is not always better. A 3T MRI is a great option for a detailed brain or knee study. Unfortunately, 3T performs poorly for whole body imaging due to wavelength interference (physics!) and imaging artifacts (more physics!). Additionally, a 3T MRI increases the body temperature 4x more than a 1.5T MRI which limits the number of images a 3T can obtain in the same time frame. Therefore, 3T MRIs are best used for single body parts. As we specialize in whole body imaging, we use a 1.5T MRI.

If you don't image the heart in great detail, what can you tell me about my heart disease risk?

We can't tell you if you have a blocked artery in the heart, a Cardiac CT Angiogram (CCTA) is much better at showing this. If you are concerned about your coronary arteries, then your doctor should request a “Calcium Score” (non contrast CT) or a “CCTA” (contrast CT). However, the Prenuvo scan can look for evidence of atherosclerotic disease, the cause of most heart attacks, in other parts of the body. The most common place we find this is the brain. If we find advanced small vessel ischemic changes in the brain then there is a high probability of having atherosclerosis in the coronary arteries of the heart.

What does the medical report contain?

We produce a detailed medical report for your physician that walks them through every system and organ in the body and identifies any abnormal findings we identify. This is produced in a format that they are familiar with.

Who interprets and reports Prenuvo scans?

A Radiologist (physician specially trained in MRI and other radiology examinations, such as X-ray, CT and ultrasound). Radiologists at Prenuvo are certified and licensed in the state or province where the Prenuvo Scan was conducted and have been specially trained in reading the Prenuvo scan.

Why don't you image the heart in great detail?

We don't image the heart in great detail because of the time it takes to do a good cardiac study. A good cardiac study takes around 40 minutes and this would not include images of the coronary arteries.

Why men are dying earlier than women

While it may not be apparent upon first glance, there is in fact a gender health gap - men are dying younger than women. On average, men are dying 5 years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons.
